NIT Durgapur ties up with CERN, Switz

Durgapur tech institute ties up with CERN, Switz

DURGAPUR, Aug. 6: The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur – a
deemed university entered into an international collaboration with
the CERN, Switzerland – a European organisation for nuclear research
last week. The areas of collaboration identified were nuclear
physics, grid computers and cryogenics. Two senior faculties of the
NIT, will be leaving for Switzerland on 2 September for a three week
composite training schedule as a part of the collaboration .
Dr Nirmal Roy and Dr Pathik Karmakar- faculty members of electrical
engineering and physics respectively will be working in the state of
the art laboratories of CERN and as part of the collaboration, Dr
Swapan Bhattacharya, director, NIT informed: " Five students of
fourth and sixth semesters will be taken by CERN in winter for an
eight weeks study programme." He added: "We have also signed an MoU
with the Glasgow Caledonian University's Oman division to help
technical expertise in the fields of oil research and environment
engineering."
A high power team of the Caledonian College recently visited NIT,
Durgapur after Dr Bhattacharya and Dr Manik Mukherjee- a senior
professor visited Oman. Dr Bhattacharya said: "Three of our faculties
will be teaching the Oman division of the Glasgow Caledonian College
as part of the MoU and will also undertake research initiatives in
their laboratories." Few of the Caledonian College faculties will be
completing their Phd at NIT, Durgapur. The chemical engineering
department and its upgraded laboratories have attracted the Oman
based Caledonian University College. The centre recently provided
funds worth Rs 1.45 crore to help in the complete up-gradation and
modernization of the chemical engineering laboratories at the NIT,
Durgapur.

Hiii Punters

Here I m describing my recent experience in NYC. Was interviewed by KPMG on 5th Oct in College. Job profile was for full time IT Advisory position starting next yr June (when I graduate). Cleared it and was invited to their New York office for final rounds of interview. They kept our stay from 24-26th Oct at Waldorf Astoria, Hilton group of hotels, which was a splendid experience. Reached their on 24th night. Its Lobby is very magnificient. My room was on 14th Floor, too good furnishing inside. Food n all was also charged to KPMG. Had dinner in their restaurent, with a lady on Piano (had seen this in movies only till then). Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were also staying in the same hotel that time in Presidential suite, though had no time for peekaboo. 25th Oct was pretty hectic. KPMG had their presentations since 9 AM till 3 PM. In the Lunch time, I skipped from there and spent 1 hr with a friend of mine, who worked with me at IBM Pune. He now works in NYC. Then got interviews scheduled since 4 PM. Had 2 rounds of half n hr, back to back. It went pretty cool, not at all grilled on Technical, though was asked to explain College Projects too (the one I did with Majjani Mishra). Then few Management Course questions, Project Management related quesitons etc. It was more of a psychological interview, where those senior managers looked directly into ur eyes and appeared quite apt in figuring out ur movements and whats going in ur mind. Overall went quite well. IT Advisory role is more into Consulting. Then at 6 PM, we were taken to a hotel, for dinner, but had a storming speed recruiting session before that. Here 5 sets of recruiters, 10 min to spend with each pair, back to back. You gotto fire questions to them, and they will grade you on that(I dunno how they do). But was tiring. After Dinner, we all had a trip of NYC, Times Square which was glittering amidst busy city life. You can imagine it to be Many Many Forum Malls (of Bangalore) standing side by side. And then the next morning-back to pavallion. Results after 2 weeks. Should be good. Lets see.

Rest Life in college is going good. Hectic as usual, though after mid terms, will get some respite. Temperature dipping enormously now. Snow expected from Mid November. Will do Skiing soon. I will have spring break from Dec 20 to Jan 14. Had Microsoft Interview too recently (1st round). Applied only for Program Manager, and was interviewd by a Program Manager only(with solid 7 yrs work exp). So dunno if I can clear it. He was sarcastic in the beginning, but overall went well. Was grilled on lot of Technical Questions pertaining to Data Structures, Linked List, other Technologies, improvements, Design questions etc. Management and strategical questions too. Results awaited.

Thats it from my side. Rest Punters in US are also doing well. Jain also appearing for Microsoft on 5th Nov. Tushar approaching his graduation. Hope rest punters are also doing well.

Hi All to all the Punters....

Just came yesterday from our Pahadi's Hometown... Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
Woow!!!! it was a great break from this clumsy , glossy Mall- culture to cool and serene beauty of Solan. I went there to Sign the contract with my client.

Yes, I have got my first assignment at Solan, to create MIS for Govt. of Himachal Pradesh under
their project of Mid Himalayan Watershed Development Project sponsored by World Bank.

Will be going next week for almost a month at Solan, for Requirement Gathering from client.
I am really excited to undergo this project as it is a different experience involving interaction with Gram Panchayat Level to Chief Project Director and also to train them and it will give at least some relief to my ears , tired of deciphering the US accent continuously for 2 years.

Pahadi do tell me some places in and around ( except Shimla) Solan where I can enjoy the

BEAUTY ..... (this involves both scenic and ........) :)

Punterlog kamon acho?? i too had the career fair. lots of companies were thr but the worst part is most of them do not take international students. anyways life was very busy for me last week. had 3 nightouts completing dumb homeworks. almost lagging behind in all the classes. profs go so fast here its difficult to catch up. really miss nitdgp profs specially T.De and Sanyal. here u cannot afford to study at the last minute. its a CRIME.

Had a chat with AB. He got his first salary a whopping 1350$. he's enjoying. rest is all fine. some one gave me the news amar is getting engaged. any updates on that??

First Experience of US job Market!

Hello Punters...

We had career fair y'de... was ok types, was more sort of resume collection.
KPMG, IBM, Deloitte, PWC featured, and they were more busy in marketting themselves rather than showing much interest in applicants. But may be this is how Career Fair goes here in US. All of them generally focussed on piling the resumes. Shortlisting will start soon, and early october we can expect few on campus interviews. And after that mostly the job scene from college will apparently freeze.

My schedule is getting on the nerves day by day.... Things are coming very fast and that too all of them together. Assignments, Projects and job, that all makes it hectic. If I didn't tell earlier, I got a Research Assistantship here. Working on a project and may try for publishing a paper if all goes well. Rest things are cool. Winters yet to start here, weather generally pleasant. And yess, herez my MS students' directory entry:

Quit Fair Isaac : On to a Start Up Again

Hey Guys, On a sudden development I have quit Fair Isaac on 12th. Fair Isaac was such a nice place to work and quiting it was very difficult. But I had to take this hard decision to take up Consulting and Business Development work as Sr. Consultant, and founding member and partner for Marketelligent.

I will be on MI roll from Sep, 24th.

With so many good news cropping up in our group , I have something to contribute too.
I have signed off from Perot and joined PricewaterHouse Coopers at Gurgaon.

I was looking for a change in my profile and that led me to take this decision of joining PwC as a
consultant ( most probably in Data Warehousing ).

Pwc is different from our conventional IT companies , and culture out here is quite professional.
Still in the Perot blues and missing those luch green campus and hot babes out there..

Guys, I just got to know Mungeri (Asish Kumar) is going to join NXP Semiconductor as Sr. Software Engineer on 17th Sep. As I know, he got the offer of 7.2L p.a. Congratulate him dudes.

Also, Vikram (TK or Tikram) has joined NetApps this month. He has acceped an offer of undisclosed sum, which is expected to be quite good. With him there are quite a few folks now with NetApps, Bangalore from NITD. Swami (Subhasis), Yam (2006 batch), Asish (98 batch) are the other guys with the company.

NITD dudes continue to rock this part of the world!!

Would be great if we could have some pics of the newly wed couple..........things here are unusual.....atleast for a DGP IT guy..........it seems that I have somehow ended with the toughest courses in my batch.........SAP operations, SAP Accounting and if that wasnt enough, SAS data mining..........So this is what feels like to get royally f*****.....things have been hectic........I havent had time to meet anupam properly..........but its my last semester here.....so its kinda fun........FYI ppl..........Pranav's appt, although is called a 'single room appt'.....but actually has two rooms in it.........so dont you guys start gettin any ideas.........however they might need another appt once the family grows............

I am at SUNY Buffalo... classes have started. Its gonna be hectic for the next 9 months. I will be graduating in Next June. Everything is up and running by now.
Got a bleak oppurtunity as of now for a Research Assitantship. Proffesor has given me a research work to do under him but rest of the formalities are yet to be discussed like stipend etc. Its very tough to get a aid in a 1 year course.
Subjects I have this sem are : Distributed Computing (Nandi waala), DBMS (Aaam khaachhis waala :D), E-Business, Project Management, Information Assurance and Business-I. Me too queued up with Tushar for hunting for job soon. Though I don't think I will do any internship till dire circumstances.

Buffalo is good. Proffessors are quite helpful.

ahh, am still in Bangalore but the ride has been quite good .... working as a Marketing Analytics Consultant for Fair Isaac .... meeting guys from college on and off the streets of Bangalore ... and blogging for the country (Vision Developed Nepal) and the entire world (Business Analytics) .... I should say, I had great time after college.

Three Punters in Texas huh............

It gives me extreme pleasure to welcome two of the wisest punters to the land of opportunity, beer and blondes........I have already had a formal meeting with Anupam and we both are looking forward to visit Bire as soon as I finally buy an insurance for my car....and get it up and running......As of now........I m still on my summer internship with motorola in New Jerey........had a lot of fun this summer..........and have decided to be in NYC for the next five years of my life.......also have decided with whom I would want to be.........I go back to texas this weekend.....to start my last semester....I graduate in december.......and would be looking for a job in the field of IT consulting and Business Analysis.........my experience in America has been great so far........Congratulations to Antao...........he got a fulltime job offer from Cisco..........if you dont really know what that means..........it means $$.............we are lookin at atleast 100K pa......I havent heard form the geek punter yet.......Ashwin is sorta missing........so it would be great if we had a blog entry from ashlee..........guys....its a true pleaseure to have friends like ya'll........and thanks to Nigel who keeps on reminding us the same.

hey punters bhai loog
i've reached lamar univ, its in a beaumont a small city in southeast texas.
The good thing here is that i got 75% scholarship so i do not have much problems financially ;)
Furthermore, i got a TA in CS dept as sysadmin, so i'm back again to linux sysadmin stuff. This would cover my living( and also tuition if i don't spend much ;) ). Though i'll be carrying my career towards .net
There's just 9 hrs or less class in a week so i have loooot of free time, as of now ;)
Seems like it might take 2.5 yrs to graduate from here coz i have to take some pre requisite courses.
Rest is fine :D

Hey punterlog good to see this blog. Nothing much happening with me. I have taken an aparment. done with the registration stuff. Will get my phone tomorrow.

Life's so far has been very busy. I spend most of the time searching for jobs as i dont have any aid as of now. I got a time pass job with a call center. It some useless stuff. Trying for a better job. I cleared my elpe exam which is mandatory for TA.

The university is huge. Lots of nice chicks, Amazing buildings, huge library.......the list goes on. Will upload some pics soon. Thats it frm my side.

Monday blues .....

Whats happening with me. hmmm . Work is good. Life is cruising along. Still don't know what I'm doing.

Bangalore suddenly seems all empty now. Lots of people have gone off to the U.S. The rest of them who are here are busy with CAT, interviews and other stuff.

So I've gone and got myself involved in the Bangalore chapter of NITDAA. Now, the Bangalore chapter is just getting started and we are aware of how ineffectual our parent body is. So we're going to make sure that we don't fall into the same pattern that the parent body is in. Which can be summed up with ... "Do Nothing"....

I'm just back from a nice long holiday in Goa 8 days, where I must say I had a wonderful, wonderful wonderful time...

I've posted a few pics on my own blog.

Lets kinda lay out what we're trying to do here. We're trying to get everyone on the same page. Who's everyone ? Everyone is the Punters.
